Flipping the Classroom – Thanks!

Final thoughts

The comments and discussion about flipped classrom was the most valuable part of the course for us. It was particularly interesting to see how this model is already at work in some ways, as many of the comments highlighted the activities and pre-work they already assign as part of their teaching. There were a few comments on the post on reflection as to whether this type of activity was suited to all disciplines. Interestingly, this reflective component is often not focused on in discussions of flipped methods as much as pre-recording video or adapting classroom activities to suit active learning principles. It raises a few questions for us to think about as we go forward about how these methods can improve our own teaching without becoming too prescriptive – there is never a “one-size fits all” approach! We hope the discussion has provided a few new ideas to all the participants.

What’s next?

We’ve reached the end of our first coffee course journey together. We have really enjoyed reading your comments and participating in the discussion as the course has progressed. The great thing about a coffee course is that the material is always available to you in the future, and you can access all of the previous posts here:

We encourage you to keep the discussions going, and continue to share your ideas with us and the other participants. Feel free to share the resources with colleagues in your colleges and schools in the future.

What did you think?

This was a new type of training for us, and we’re keen to hear how you found it. We would really appreciate if you could take 2-3 minutes to give us some feedback on how you found the content, the use of the blog, the coffee course format, and let us know what future topics would be of interest.

Go to the PollEverywhere survey.

You can also leave your comments on this blog post, as always.

See you next time!

This is just the beginning of the coffee course and blog. We hope to see you in future courses!

Thanks,

Janene & Katie.

  1. Thanks Janene and Katie, this is a really useful approach to teaching and learning scholarship. Looking forward to the next one

  2. Thank you Janene and Katie for creating this awesome course! I have really enjoyed going through it. My apologies that I am participating late instead of with the rest of the cohort. I have responded to the survey, but I also wanted to say that I appreciate the depth of material you have included. I am going to go back and engage with those extra links and readings when I get a change. I really appreciate the work you have done on this. 🙂

  3. Very helpful and useful resources. Learned a lot from the participants’ inputs too. Thank you and well done.

  4. Although I am a bit late to the game, I am thoroughly enjoying the Coffee and Espresso Courses. The short, online, and open format are great for time-poor people. However, I have never completed a single blog in the time it takes to drink a coffee. Perhaps I am just a slow learner (or a fast drinker)!

    1. Hi Bhavani, not late at all! I’m glad the course format is working for you! It might be measured by how long it takes me to drink a cup of tea– which is forever!! 🙂

  5. This was my first Coffee Course, and I think it’s a great initiative and format! It’s great that you’re making sure the courses stay available and that you encourage people to keep the discussion going. Looking forward to more!!!
