TEL Certificate Program – 2019 Launch!

We are very excited to announce that our TEL certificate program for ANU participants is being offered again in 2019!

We’ve slightly updated the modules to provide a bit more flexibility in what courses you can choose to do after the feedback from the pilot.

Build your own qualification in technology-enhanced learning and receive a certificate.

This certificate program is fully online and self-paced, and allows you to complete the modules in any order, in your own time. Simply complete 10 coffee courses on a range of topics, write a short reflection, and apply for your certificate.

Why do the certificate?

If you are seeking to improve your skills and knowledge relating to teaching and learning, and technology-enhanced learning in particular, this certificate is for you. By completing the modules, you will have demonstrated significant professional learning in this area that can be shared with colleagues and employers. The reflection you complete for this certificate is designed so that it can be used to contribute to your application to the ANU Educational Fellowship Scheme, an internationally-accredited program for professional recognition.

And finally, we offer this certificate to recognise all the amazing contributions and hard work that you, the participants, have invested in the coffee courses since they began in 2016.

How it works

Register by Friday March 29, 2019, and you will have until November this year to complete the 10 coffee courses – which comprises 1 course from each of the 6 modules, plus an additional 4 courses of your choice.

The coffee courses can be completed in any order, at any time. Each course will contain 3 to 5 blog posts with embedded activities and discussion questions. Participants must contribute a substantive comment to each blog post to complete the course and a final reflection. We will host special events throughout the year to guide participants along their journey.

Certificate eligibility

The TEL in Higher Education Certificate is available for all members of ANU staff, including academics, professional staff, tutors, demonstrators, librarians, higher degree research students, and others. Unfortunately at this time, it is only available to participants who are currently ANU staff.

This certificate is ideal for anyone who has participated in several coffee courses already and is looking for more comprehensive recognition of their engagement with professional learning and development around technology-enhanced learning.

  1. This sounds like an exciting professional development route. For those of us who are non-ANU BASED, perhaps using an international Ed platform might enable the offering via Future Learn or similar?

    1. Hi Rae, thanks for the suggestion! We are may explore our options around making it available outside of ANU, but with our current resourcing it is not really a possibility at this time. But participants outside of ANU are always welcome to do the courses themselves! Thanks!

  2. I completed the TEL Certificate Program last year. It was hard work, but worthwhile. I see the process has been streamlined, but participants should not assume this is a “tick and flick” exercise: it makes you think about your teaching. However, the biggest problem with this, and most such programs, is that they are not recognized formal education. That is they do not contribute to an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification. Perhaps incorporation of micro-credentials into the AQF (as has been done in NZ) will change that.
