We’ve discussed so many different topics relating to technology in teaching on this blog over the past year and a half, and for our next course we’d like to explore technology-enhanced learning (or TEL) in detail, including how to integrate technology effectively into your practice. Whether you’re new to this area or more experienced, this course will offer guidance on designing teaching and learning with technology, and discuss how TEL is impacting the world of higher education.

Technology in teaching: From the basics to the bigger picture
Technology has become an integral part of teaching and learning across all types of education, with activities and assessment being conducted online, lectures recorded for later review, and the increasing prevalence of blended and online delivery. But what exactly is “technology-enhanced learning” and how do you do it effectively?
This course will unpack the principles of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) and address common assumptions about TEL with recent research. Participants will learn how to apply these principles to their own teaching practice, and learn strategies to design effective TEL activities.
This course ran from Monday, 30 April to Friday, 4 May, 2018 through this blog but is accessible online to anyone interested. There are 5 blog posts that will take about 10-15 minutes to work through.

Dr. Katie Freund, Senior Learning Designer, ANU Online
Katie advises academics on eLearning design and initiatives, researches innovative solutions in education technology, creates digital media resources, and trains staff on Wattle (Moodle) learning management system and other digital tools for teaching and learning. She is also a researcher in education technology and digital communication.
Jill Lyall, Learning Designer, ANU Online
Jill has a background in social sciences, community services, and adult education. Jill has worked for many years in Vocational Education and Training in a TAFE environment in Western Australia. During that time she developed an interest in technology for learning, and developed her skills for online learning. Since early 2015, Jill has been working with ANU Online, creating online materials for post-graduate courses and support and training resources in technology enhanced learning for academics at ANU.
